Air Cadet Squadron2284(Dunblane) Squadron, Air Training Corps (ATC), Leader Grahame Kirsopp FLT LT, OC 2284 Sqn Based in our own building next to the Dunblane Centre, the Squadron meets every Monday and Wednesday night between 19:00 and 21:30. They recruit girls and boys from 13 to 16 years old. The evening is split into 2 sections with a canteen break at 20:00 Further information on the Air Cadets is available at our own website www.2284dunblaneatc.btik.com/ or the Squadron can be contacted on 01786 825355. They are the Cadets of the Royal Air Force although they are not a recruiting tool for the RAF, there is no requirement for Cadets to continue on to the RAF or any other Service although it is true to say that Cadets who choose to pursue a career in the RAF have an advantage having experienced the ATC. The main difference between the Cadets and other youth organisations is the flying, Cadets are given the opportunity to fly in GROB TUTOR aircraft based out of RAF Leuchars and they follow a structured training plan to improve their flying skills. They will also learn the art of gliding from one of the Volunteer Glider Squadrons based at either RM Condor near Arbroath or Kirknewton airfield near Edinburgh. In addition to the above, the Cadets will take part in all sorts of adventurous activities including the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The Squadron is also recruiting adult staff. Anyone with an interest in Aviation or just in helping young people is welcome, no military experience or training is required. Training for all activities will be given. Volunteers for Adult Staff should be 20 years old or over and will be subject to CRB Clearance to enhanced level for working with young people. Volunteers interested in Staff or Cadet Posts should attend the Squadron on a Monday or Wednesday night, new Cadets must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on their first night for a short induction and brief on what the Air Cadets is all about. Come and join us! Not only does the Squadron have its own programme of activities, it also takes part in other events with other squadrons from not just within Edinburgh & South Scotland Wing but also from all across Scotland and the UK. This provides an ideal opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.. At the same time cadets learn new skills, develop their leadership abilities and above all have fun doing things they would not normally get the chance to.
