The Trust takes over the management of the Braeport Centre, click here for more infomation

Within the Community Plan for Dunblane, two of the listed Main Strategies for Action are Community Facilities and Planning and Strategic Development. For the first year of the Trust, we had two separate groups attending to these but from this experience it emerged that it would be better to combine them into one Action Group, called Community Development.

At the time of this update, we do not have a Director appointed for this group and the strategy and action priorities have not yet been fully developed. However, there are a number of current actions being progressed and these are covered below.

The original Community Facilities group established good contacts with the managements of all the facilities within Dunblane and it became clear that, generally, they were well managed, able to deal with their own issues and did not require any specific input from the Trust. However, this was not the case at the Braeport Centre where most members of the management committee were unable to continue in office. Following detailed work with the management team and Stirling Council, who own the Centre, the Trust took over the management role. This relationship is reviewed annually and the next review will be in November 2005.

The original Planning and Strategic Development group provided active support to the Community Council by serving on their Planning sub-committee. This is continuing and it makes a valuable contribution to ensuring that the Community Council responses to planning applications are based on a reasonable cross section of views within the community. In addition, ongoing efforts continue in trying to get infrastructure improvements to balance with the increases of residential numbers. The main focus is on parking capacity, health service provisions and footpath improvements.

We need more people to help progress our activities. We would be particularly pleased to hear from anyone willing to take on the role of Director, Community Development. This role will require attending a Board meeting in the evening of the first Wednesday in each month and around a half-day per week in addition to that.
