Judging categories

We have applied to participate in the Beautiful Scotland in Bloom campaign. There are a whole range of classes based on the population size of town or community. Dunblane falls into the class of a town with a population of between 6,001 and 12,000.The concept covers a range of categories on which you are judged divided into three sections A, B, and C as follows:

Section A.

Sustainable development (30 points)

Sustainable initiatives to conserve energy, to protect wildlife and habitats and to promote green transport including cycling etc.

Projects for schools and young people.

Cleanliness (30 points)

Cleanliness of streets and open spaces including on-going clean up projects, elimination of dog fouling, graffiti, litter, fly-posting and fly tipping and chewing gum.

The maintenance of hard landscaping and street furniture                  

Waste awareness (30 points)

Initiatives for waste minimisation, recycling, re-use and composting.

Section B

Horticulture and Permanent Planting (15 points)

Public parks and town gardens, War Memorials and recreational areas.(15 points)

Public buildings, colleges, hospitals, civic buildings, displays associated with roads and green spaces. (15 points)

Business and Commercial, shops, multiple stores, retail centres, travel centres, industrial estates (15 points)

Residential Gardens – Private and council housing, open spaces, entrances including verges, allotments (15 points)

Seasonal and permanent planting of shrubs and trees, including projects for schools and young people (20 points)

Section C

Public/community participation Community involvement in all sections (20 points)

Publicity and fundraising (10 points)
