Dunblane Develoment Trust - In Bloom NewsApril 2004. Now that Spring is just around the corner things will start to happen and it is now that we should assess the situation and plan accordingly. The construction of the Polytunnel is well under way and will be ready to house the bedding plants for hardening off prior to planting out. Our plan for planting this year will again be modest due to financial and logistical restraints. We will be increasing the number of half barrels to a total of 20 which will be filled by Molawn and located in the same places as last year with the extra barrels being located in ground to the front of St. Blanes Church. The roundabout at the top of the High Street. This has been partially cleared of roses. It is the intention to rake off the stones and incorporate as much horse manure in the bed as soon as possible, prior to planting out we will give it a generous dusting of Blood Hoof and Horn fertiliser. Planting out will take place around the first two weeks in June. The intention to fill the bed with Non Stop Begonias, which I have already started to grow in my greenhouse ( some 300/400) and the surrounding edge of the raised roundabout planted with Surfinias and other trailing plants to soften the effect of the wall and provide a contrast in colour against the begonias and perhaps a few cordilines to add height. The rose beds on the Perth road local to Smithy Loan. The intention is to attempt to salvage what remains of the roses to create one rose bed. The other bed will be planted with bedding plants provided by Stirling Council which were all originally destined for the Fourways Roundabout but with the planting of Box Hedging, to reduce the area for planting, there is now a surplus. |
