Dunblane Development Trust - EnvironmentThe Environment Group was formed to improve the open spaces in Dunblane by forming groups to remove litter, refurbish public bankings, parks and gardens by removing brambles, weeds and dead matter and replace with wild flowers, shrubs, trees and bedding plants to improve the general look of the city to attract local visitors and tourists which will improve the economy of the area. Our first project was to refurbish Ochlochy park and pond, by draining the pond and excavating the silt to form four islands and improve the bankings, excavate a new settlement pool which would be planted with bullrushes to use reed technology to remove harmful nitrates and chemicals. We also repaired the sluice gate to stop the pond from draining away during dry periods and reseeded the banks and islands with native wildflowers and grasses to give the native birds nesting sites and natural habitat. The Dunblane in Bloom group was then formed to refurbish and establish the various flower beds around the city and position 20 flower tubs in the town centre. The DIB group have also had a poly tunnel erected by Mo-Lawn services in their grounds, to produce bedding plants from seed and plugs for future planting . Sunday working parties were also formed to clear the B8033 bankings of litter, brambles and debris, to allow the snowdrops and daffodils to flower and give the city a real spring feel. The Haining banking on the riverside was also cleared which was a mammoth task which is now complete. All the bankings will be replanted using native wildflowers, shrubs and trees to preserve the areas from landslip and erosion. Any dry stone walls will also be refurbished to maintain the drainage and again stop erosion. Cala Evans Homes will provide a grant of up to £15,000 to landscape the roundabout at their recent Dunblane development which will give a positive north entrance into city as this will incorporate the Dunblane crest. The Trust have also completed their health and safety policy in conjunction with Stirling Council which complies with the 1974 health & safety at work act and the 1999 management of health & safety at work regulations, supported by published guidance, approved codes of practice and other regulations that may be applicable to its activities, the details of which can be accessed on the health & safety website, copies of which are distributed to all directors of the Trust. |
