General Information on the Trust
In 2002, extensive survey work was carried out across the whole community and a Community Plan for Dunblane was generated. The Plan contains a summary of the results of the surveys and describes how, through the formation of a new charitable trust, the hopes of the Dunblane community could be realised. In June 2003, Dunblane Development Trust Ltd. was established to deliver the Community Plan.
The Trust is an independent private limited company belonging to its Members, all of whom are either Dunblane residents or employees in Dunblane businesses. The Trust is capable of tapping into a wide range of public and private funding sources including development grants, charity trust donations, lottery funds, private sponsorship, etc. Its organisational costs are low, the Directors are unpaid volunteers and because it is a company limited by guarantee, no profits or dividends can be distributed. All this ensures that most of the funds raised will go directly to actioning the improvement projects.
The Directors, who are all Members, are responsible for the management of the Company and all its activities.
Most of the current action work is currently undertaken by the Environment Group. It is recognised that in addition to the direct benefits this brings to the local environment, improvements also bring benefits to the local economy and to the community as a whole.
When improvement projects are identified, these are costed, funds are assembled and improvement actions carried out. Most of the work is carried out by Members on a voluntary basis, so substantial improvements can be made without incurring a lot of cost.
Although the Trust is independent, it benefits from working with other organisations and individuals in progressing its ideas and activities. Stirling Council must be involved in matters for which they are responsible. Local businesses and individual residents are encouraged to assist with funding, expertise, experience and other contributions “in kind”.
