Dunblane Development Trust - Local BusinessLatest News Within the Community Plan for Dunblane, developing the local economy is identified as one of the sectors for action. Unfortunately, nobody has yet come forward to take on the role of Director for the Local Economy and therefore progress has been somewhat limited. This would be an excellent role for a retired business man or woman with some continuing enthusiasm for business, so if you are potentially interested, please contact us for a no-obligation chat. Despite this leadership however, the following has been achieved under the four priority action areas: 1. Create a thriving Town Centre. This title was changed from the original objective which was to “create a thriving High Street”. We established a Town Centre Improvement Group with businesses across the town centre participating in regular meetings and activities but after a series of meetings, it was decided that the best course of action was to put this group “on hold” for a period and concentrate on supporting the Environment Group with their activities, which have already made the centre a lot more attractive. Much more can be done with the traders actively participating in this effort. 2. Develop Enterprise Locally. This initiative covers all businesses across Dunblane, including home-based businesses. We carried out some work with Stirling Enterprise to identify how best we could bring business support programmes to those that wish to participate. A questionnaire survey was used to establish the business priorities for action and priorities were identified for attention. We are looking for someone to take on the role. 3. Growing the Business Parks. A recent Local Plan Public Inquiry determined that the area to the North of Barbush is to remain designated for Class 4 business use. We, in conjunction with the Community Council and economic development agencies, are seeking suitable businesses that could be located there. Our other business park, the Duckburn Estate is generally well occupied and there is no obvious scope for expansion. 4. Developing Tourism. The Tourism Group is continuing to work on a number of annual activities. The main activities for 2005 are support for The Fling, Dunblane in Tartan day, a Festival of Crafts weekend and the Santa Lucia procession. New tourism ideas that have been considered include developing a fairly extensive Festive Programme for 2006 and helping the Fling Committee to develop a wider music festival. This is another area where we need more volunteers. .
