Improving the Local Economy

The Local Economy Group of Dunblane Development Trust has had its first meeting with local traders following the decision of the Dunblane Business Initiative (DBI) to wind up its activities and transfer its assets to the Trust. A group of committed individuals is now emerging that want to help make our town centre a more attractive and rewarding place to visit and shop, both by local residents and by visitors. This group has already set a few early priorities : to embark on publicity and marketing of the businesses in our centre, to actively support the work of the Environment Group in improving the appearance of the centre and to actively support the work of the Tourism Group in attracting and serving visitors. One idea being considered is to take a number of current activities around the Christmas period and bring these together into a co-ordinated festive programme, including switching on the lights, carol singing, Santa Claus, Santa Lucia procession and other suitable activities and attractions.

The Local Economy Group has made good contacts with key personnel in Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley and Stirling Enterprise and is now ready to assist any Dunblane business, whether in the town centre or elsewhere by tapping into support programmes for business development, including start-ups, marketing, business planning, IT, accountancy, etc.
