Dunblane Development Trust - Chairmans Statment

Chairman’s Statement June 2008.

Welcome to the Dunblane Development Trusts website and your window on the city of Dunblane which dates back to the year 600 and was founded by St. Blane.

The Development Trust has come along way since its inception in July 2003 and our membership has increased to over 500 this year, which clearly indicates we are progressing both as a company and a charitable Trust.

We are of course only as good as our members, who are the source of all our projects, volunteering their free time to contribute to the betterment of Dunblane.

The Trust has increased its influence in the community by continually implementing the 2003 community plan and accessing funds for the Dunblane Centre and various youth groups, the skatepark project, Dunblane in Bloom, a seat refurbishment project and a new Memorial bridge has been built to replace the old one which was built by the Royal Engineers 53 rd Field Squadron (Air Support) in October 2007.

The backbone of the Trust is the Dunblane environmental group, who weekly volunteer their services to refurbished old flower beds, place many half barrels around the city, tidy up wild areas and replant with wild flowers, create community gardens, build new and old dry stone walls and do litter picks around all the public areas.

They have been rewarded by entering and winning the Scotland in Bloom competition in 2004 and being finalists 2005, 2006 and 2007.

This type of dedication is beneficial to all of Dunblane, and is an example to us all of what can be achieved, when we the residents band together and show the world how we can improve our environment.

The Trust is now a beneficiary of the Air Tricity wind farm on the Braes of Doune, and will receive £12,000 per annum (indexed linked) for the next 25 years.

This year the Board of the Trust decided to allocate the money to the Braeport Community Centre to refurbish the inside of the centre for the benefit of all the community users and also attract new users and businesses to the centre which will help keep costs down in the future, and if you wish to book the centre please call Bill Stewart on tel 01786 822312.

In future years the distribution of the Air Tricity funds will be administered by a committee made up of members of the community who will then advise the Trust of the recommended projects and the Trust will then distribute the funds accordingly.

Dunblane in Bloom is now well established and DiB Director Sandy MacKay and his volunteers are to be congratulated on all there hard work by growing 10,000 plants in the Trust poly tunnel to plant out in all the displays in Dunblane.

The Trust also sponsors the Dunblane in Bloom competition which is open to all traders in the City centre and prizes will be awarded for various types of displays in August.

In 2008 we hope to spread this competition to the residents of Dunblane, but to do this we need public support as it will involve hard work and a new level of participation.

The competition will be judged by independent judges form outside Dunblane and their decision will be final, please look for details in the local press in the spring of 2008.

In 2008 a new Community Plan will be formulated by the Community Council and the Development Trust with help from Stirling Council.

This will establish the future needs of Dunblane and the community will be consulted fully in this matter with a document being produced in 2008 for distribution to all members in the community.

The Trust AGM will be held on Saturday the 6th of September 2008 at 10.30am in the Braeport Community Centre; all Trust members are welcome and will receive notification 21 days in advance.

May I take this opportunity to thank all the members, volunteers, sponsors, traders and residents of Dunblane who contribute so much throughout the year.

Bryan Grieve.
Chairman.
Dunblane Development Trust.
