Dunblane Development Trust - General NewsCommunity View - February 2004 For those who have missed previous publications regarding the Trust, here is a summary of what it is all about. For those of you that have had these details before, I hope that you do not mind the repetition in the interests of engaging with those who are new to us. Dunblane Development Trust is a company, limited by guarantee with charitable status that was incorporated in June 2003. We have a Local Community Plan for Dunblane, which was published in May 2003 after very widespread consultation across the community and it is this Plan that the company is trying to deliver. In summary the Plan identifies opportunities for improvements under four Action Groups: Local Environment, Local Economy, Planning and Strategy and Community Facilities. The Company is owned and managed by its Members, who are all residents or employees in Dunblane and it has a Board of Directors, who are all Members. At the time of writing, there are around 250 current members and a Board of 9. In short, it is Dunblane’s own Company, owned and run by the people of Dunblane, for the benefit of Dunblane. To become a Member, all you have to do is complete a simple Application Form and pay the £2 annual fee. Forms are available at Burgh Chambers, the Library, the four newsagents across the town or by telephoning 823503 or 822281 and on this website link. We have received substantial grant from Stirling Council to cover our essential core costs, including insurances and we are making efforts to attract action project funding from a wide variety of sources. These include Membership fees (£2 per annum), donations, sponsorship, grants from charitable trusts and others and self-help fund raising events. Some of our Members have volunteered to work on fund-raising, but we need more. A considerable proportion of Members participate in the action work of the Trust and in a separate article in this publication, you will read about the considerable activities of the Local Environment Group for example. If your interests are in line with any of the four Action Groups or with fund raising, you will be welcome to join in. It is an excellent way to engage with the community, to extend your social life and to see some rewarding improvements at the same time. If on the other hand you just wish to be a Member and nothing more, then you will also be very welcome. It is vital that we have a strong membership so that we have a good income stream and so that a lot can be achieved at very low cost, without too much burden on any individuals. No volunteers, including the Directors, are paid for what they do, but it is good fun. |
