Dunblane Development Trust - General News

Community View - September 2004

TWO NEW COMMUNITY COUNCILLORS.

In the last edition of Community View, we reported that 3 new Community Councillors had just been elected but that there were still 4 vacancies that we needed to fill. We are delighted to be able to report that at the August Community Council meeting, 2 of these vacancies were filled. Susan Rodger, who lives in Bridgend, has joined as a Councillor for Ward 5, Town Centre and Stuart Hepburn, from Ashfield, has joined as the Councillor for Ward 8, Landward. We welcome them both and hope that they enjoy their time with us.

The Community Council is now :-

Ward 1 Argyle & Braemar Tony Ford and Terence O’Byrne

Ward 2 Royals John Alexander and one vacancy

Ward 3 Primary School Gordon Boyd and Peter McCusker

Ward 4 Kilbryde Sandy Mackay and Craig French

Ward 5 Town Centre Sandy Hall and Susan Rodger

Ward 6 North Ken Geddes and one vacancy

Ward 7 East Mike Seal and Duncan Taylor

Ward 8 Landward Stuart Hepburn

The Community Council is supported by our Minutes Secretary, Margaret Bragg.

We now need to fill the last 2 positions. If anyone living in the Royals or North Wards has a potential interest, please contact the Secretary, Sandy Mackay on 822765. The North Ward has the biggest number of new houses and it is vital that those that have recently joined our community should feel free to join us. The Royals is one of the older areas of Dunblane where we must have a wealth of experience and knowledge of our community. Combining contributions from long standing and new residents is a good way of ensuring a good cross section of opinion when dealing with vital issues that affect us all.

The main duties of the Community Council are:

  • To give a community view on anything that may or will have an impact on people living or working in Dunblane, including planning applications, changes to infrastructure (roads, parking, schools, health centre, mains services, etc.), changes to legislation and policies, waste collections, recycling, gritting, cleaning, etc.
  • To proactively bring to Stirling Council’s attention any matters where some action is required, including play areas, parks, footpaths, waste and dog bins, leisure facilities, litter management, etc.
  • To work with the Police on matters such as vandalism, litter, alcohol, drug abuse, etc. and to assist them with any communications or relationship problems between themselves and the community.
  • To work with other agencies such as Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley , Historic Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, the water, gas and electricity companies, etc. where we are experiencing problems or where we believe improvements can be made.
  • To act as a local point of call for residents or businesses that require advice or help.
