IMPROVED HEALTH AND WELFARE PROVISIONS

There has been much consultation recently about changes through Forth Valley Health Board that will affect the health and welfare services for all of us and the Community Council and Dunblane Development Trust are both involved in trying to influence the decisions.

It was good to see a recent consultation meeting in Victoria Halls supported by many locals and their participation, particularly through some sharp questioning, will have done us no harm. At the meeting it became clear that many in Dunblane had not received a consultation paper that was supposed to have been distributed by a contractor to every household. This paper included details of the Victoria Hall meeting and a questionnaire that gave people the opportunity to contribute to the consultative process. If you did not get one and were unable to attend the meeting, you can get all the information you require by ringing 0800 456033 or by logging onto www.yourhealthservice.com

We are assured that we will be getting investment into our Health Centre and the current Forth Valley Healthcare Strategy includes a provision of nearly £1million for Dunblane. But, there are many difficulties emerging as the details are considered. Firstly the current site has significant restrictions and alternative sites are not easily available. In addition, if there is to be a major re-build at the existing site there will have to be a temporary health centre set up somewhere convenient and again this is proving difficult to locate. In addition, constraints on the availability of trained doctors, nurses and specialists coupled with new restrictions on doctors’ working hours and other contractural changes need to be accommodated. Finally, Dunblane cannot be considered in isolation; it has to be considered in conjunction with services that are being provided elsewhere within the Forth Valley area. However, a local study group is being set-up and we will be participating in that. If anyone in the community has a special interest in this or some valuable expertise that we can call on, please contact Mike on 822281.

As reported in previous editions of Community View, we conditionally supported an application for a new nursing home on the Perth Road but the application was rejected by Stirling Council Planning. The developer in this case has appealed against the rejection and a Reporter has been appointed. Hopefully, he will approve this application and provide some relief from the prospect of declining nursing home places in Dunblane.
